A former educator from Boston who brought his passion and knowledge of sports to Fort Myers, John Carrigan was the driving force that developed the All Star Classic into the premier event it is today. In 2014, Rotary Club of Fort Myers South initiated a special award honoring the hard work and dedication of John Carrigan in bringing the All Star Classic to Fort Myers. The John Carrigan Coach of the Year award is presented to a Lee County high school football coach, who during the school year, exemplifies teamwork and dedication not only to the athletic development of the All-Stars, but also to the educational development of exemplary citizen students and leaders who will shape the future of this county and beyond for years to come. All of the coaches involved in the All Star Classic submit nominations and vote each year on who will be the honoree and the winner is named at the banquet.
