2012 All-Star Classic Wraps Up with a South Win

The events of the 24th Annual John Carrigan Rotary South All-Star Classic concluded with a win by the South team under the lights of Sam Sirianni Stadium/Edison Field at Fort Myers High School on December 5, 2012.  With a 14-0 score in this match-up, the South team enjoys a series lead of 16-7-1.  An audience of nearly 6,000 turned out to cheer on their teams and enjoy the sportsmanship  of the game.

MVP awards went to Johnell Barnes from Dunbar and Kendall Beck from Riverdale. Spirit and leadership awards were presented to cheerleaders Nola Simmons from Ida Baker and Jamisha Johnson from Dunbar.

Throughout the three-day celebration, the Miami Dolphins new partnership with Rotary South enhanced each event. Dolphins staff and alumni including Troy Drayton and Twan Russell inspired the players, presented a Dol-Fit youth clinic for the community, participated in the games’ festivities and provided enhancements to the stadium.

Will Muschamp, head football coach for the University of Florida Gators provided an inspirational message to the participants and other audience members at the banquet on Monday, December 3.  The All-Star football players received game rings, and cheerleaders received charms in recognition of their achievement, presented by their coaches.

The Rotary Club of Fort Myers South offers sincere thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors who made the All-Star Classic possible this year, especially our title sponsor Fort Myers Toyota, and Mr. John Carrigan who founded the event.  Proceeds go to the club’s foundation where they are used to fund scholarships and community grants.
