Rotary South All-Star Classic Showcases College Football Prospects

Top high school seniors to play in 32nd anniversary game

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Nov. 21, 2020) — It’s one last chance to see some of Lee County’s most talented high school football players before they move on to college. The Rotary Club of Fort Myers South is presenting the 32nd Annual All Star Classic (ASC), supported by title sponsor Acentria Insurance and Tower Hill Insurance Group, from December 7 through December 9. This organized countywide game kicks off at 7 p.m. on December 9, highlighting 78 players from Lee county high schools.

The players are not the only All-Stars on the field, the ASC welcomes 37 cheerleaders as well. Each participating school was invited to send two cheerleaders, and every All-Star player and cheerleader participant gets a customized commemorative ring or charm.  Game tickets are just $10 and they are available at the gate, and parking is $5 per vehicle.

The ASC Banquet will take place on Monday, December 7, at The Alliance for The Arts, from 6 pm until 9:30 pm to recognize the participating student-athletes and cheerleaders. CDC Guidelines will be followed, and the event will be hosted outside to allow for ample social distancing. The 32nd annual All Star Classic game will be held on Wednesday, December 9, at Fort Myers High School with kickoff at 7 pm.

The event was the first countywide high school football all-star game in Florida when it was founded in 1989. John Carrigan, a Sanibel resident, teacher and referee, wanted to provide a showcase for talented players who weren’t getting their due. Since then, it’s grown into a hotbed of top-level prospects, and nearly two dozen players who have taken part in the game have gone on to NFL careers including Sammy Watkins, Tommy Bohanon, Phillip Buchanon, Nate Allen, and Jevon Kearse.

The Rotary Club is seeking donations and sponsors to help cover the cost of the event. Businesses and individuals can sponsor the event, a team, player, or cheerleader.
